He asked you to unlock it.
That took something. Here is what the app is, what it costs, and — the part he is probably worried about — what you will and won't be able to see.
What it is
PureFaith is a Christian app for young men trying to break a pornography habit. It does four things: a short set of daily disciplines (prayer, Scripture, reflection), a filter that blocks explicit sites and apps across the whole phone, a one-tap mode for the moment an urge hits, and an accountability partner he chooses himself.
It is built around Scripture rather than shame. The verse pages on this site are a fair sample of the tone: verses about lust, temptation and self-control.
What you will not be able to see
This matters more than anything else on this page, so it is worth being exact.
There is no parent dashboard, and paying does not create one. Subscribing does not show you his streak, his journal, what he writes to the coach, which sites he blocks, when he struggles, or whether he has had a bad week. None of that is sent to you, and there is no screen in the app where you could go and look.
That is deliberate. A boy who thinks the app is a surveillance device his father is paying for will not be honest in it, and an app he is not honest in does nothing. What you are buying is the tool, not a report.
If you want to know how he is doing, he is the one to ask. The app will not tell you behind his back.
What it costs
The free version is genuinely usable: the daily disciplines, the streak, the explicit-content filter and the one-tap urge mode all stay free, and the filter is free permanently. Premium adds the AI coach, custom blocking rules, scheduled focus windows, the full prayer and Scripture libraries and the pattern insights.
Premium is $59.99 a year — about $5 a month — or $9.99 monthly, and there is a 7-day free trial. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you can cancel any time in your App Store account settings.
How to pay for his
You subscribe on your phone, and he gets it on his — you do not need his Apple Account password, and he does not need yours.
- Make sure you and he are in the same Family Sharing group, with Purchase Sharing turned on. (iPhone Settings → your name → Family.)
- Install PureFaith from the App Store on your own phone.
- Open it and subscribe. You can close it afterwards.
- On his phone, he opens PureFaith and taps Restore Purchases in Settings.

If you would rather not
That is a reasonable answer, and the free version is not a crippled demo — the filter and the daily disciplines are the backbone of the thing and they cost nothing. The more useful conversation is probably not about the subscription anyway.
He told you he is fighting something. That is the hard part, and he has already done it.
